I really should be doing some work right now

Wow. I’ve been blessed with a straight up plethora of bomb new free music!! I don’t even really know where to start and there’s not too much room for me to educate on who some of these cats are. I’m just gonna throw them at you and let you listen for yourselves.

First off is Spec Boogie’s newest collection – Kid Gorgeous. Its effing dope and it has my favorite song of the moment, his version of The Knife’s “Heartbeats.” I’ve probably listened to this song a good thousand times since the end of July.

Not to be outdone, Kanye signed off on a collection of remixes called the Sky High Remix Project. Its got some of my favorite producers and DJs – including A-Trak, Diplo, Cookin Soul, and one of my favorites, The Kickdrums. And A-Trak also jumps on The Knife train to rework Heartbeats/Get Em High. Pretty good but not the same as SB actually riding the beat.

Next is something I’ve been waiting for since Soundbombing III’s “They Don’t Flow” from that sangin/rappin ass Novel. He put out one of my favorite songs of the year – his version of Coldplay’s ”Lost” - and Hova had to bite off it. Novel’s the shit and this is him re-tworking Kanye’s 808 & Heartbreaks album. I like it better than Kon the Lui Vuitton Don’s.

And here’s producers Beatnick and K Salaam big upping Common Sense (he’s always gonna be Common Sense to me, especially when Common’s always falling in love).  If anything, this is a dope greatest hits compilation.

And finally here’s the Coldplay x Jay Z mash up. Shit is dope. I’m not that big of a Coldplay fan (except for who the lead singer is kicking it with) but this is a nice intro for me. Otherwise Coldplay just reminds me of that creepy “Yellow” song.

That “Yellow” song brings back bad memories. Once, went on a roadtrip down to Chi-town with two friends. One is my boy Max, the other Henny Penny. Max and I like the hip hop, Henny Penny not so much. Somehow he worked it out so he could throw a CD or two in during the ride. Well he chose Dave Matthews first. We gave it the quick veto. Next he put in ”Yellow” and turned it up to 11 on the Spinal Tap scale and began singing his ass off. Weird shit to be in a car with three dudes and is singing a love song about some color (even if it is a primary one) in some whiny, falsetto voice. I think we almost pulled the car over and fought at some point. Point is, not that big of a Coldplay fan.
